I love getting texts from friends showing me what they're eating.
This recently happened to me when a good friend sent me step by step
pictures and instructions on what she was fixing her family for lunch. I
told her I was going to pick her brain about because it sounded SO good
and I'm always looking for fun stuff to post here. So here you go.
These were DELICIOUS! And the most important thing to remember here is that you need a good spicy mustard! You can use almost any kind of sausage. I think
kielbasa would be really good. This was a fun and easy meal to throw
together for us and would be great on the weekend or for a crowd.
Sausage Dogs
5 Italian sausages (or Brats)
2 green bell peppers ~ sliced
1 or 2 red bell peppers ~ sliced
1 medium onion ~ sliced
1 cup chicken stock or water
5 hot dog buns
Horseradish mustard
Salt & pepper to taste
In a large skillet, brown the sausages on all sides in a little olive oil.
Remove sausage from the pan.
Add the veggies to the pan and stir.
Pour in chicken stock OR water.
Place sausages on top of veggies and cover pan. Cook over medium heat for about 15 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Remove lid and allow liquid to reduce for another 10 minutes or so.
Spread horseradish mustard over buns. Add some of the veggies. Top with a sausage and more veggies.
Welcome!
Welcome to Simple Fare, Fairly Simple. This is a place for me to post recipes of all kinds...along with other miscellaneous fodder from my so-called life here in the south. Who knows what you will find here. Could be anything from my husband...known as IT Guy...to my kids and beautiful grandbabies that are growing up way too fast right before my eyes. But...mostly this will be a place for food. I hope you'll see something you like and if you decide to try something from the list...leave me a comment and let me know!
