Welcome to Simple Fare, Fairly Simple. This is a place for me to post recipes of all kinds...along with other miscellaneous fodder from my so-called life here in the south. Who knows what you will find here. Could be anything from my husband...known as IT Guy...to my kids and beautiful grandbabies that are growing up way too fast right before my eyes. But...mostly this will be a place for food. I hope you'll see something you like and if you decide to try something from the list...leave me a comment and let me know!

Brown Sugar Chewies

This recipe came from my mom YEARS ago. I think she was making this recipe before I was even married so of course it went right into the recipe file of simple things to cook for my husband. Being a new bride, I wasn't the best cook in the world and "came into my own" years later when I discovered how fun cooking can be. But...I digress. This bar cookie recipe is so easy and SO good. The last pan I made disappeared in no time flat. It would be great served with a dollop of sweetened whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Plain is good too. Oh, so good.

Brown Sugar Chewies

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Line 1 rimmed 12x15 inch cookie sheet with parchment paper

4 eggs – beaten
2 ¼ cups brown sugar
2 cups flour
1 cup chopped pecans
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Dash salt

Beat the eggs and brown sugar together until creamy. Add the vanilla. Stir in the flour, cinnamon and salt. Add chopped nuts.

Pour batter into prepared baking pan. Bake for about 20 minutes. Glaze.

2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix all together and pour over warm cookies. Let icing cool and harden then cut into bars.

Makes about 24 bars.

Simple ingredients for a simple recipe.

Mix it all up....

...throw it in the pan.

Frosting stuff....another easy thing.

Mix it up....

...and this is what happens.
Can you see the yumminess??
