Easy French Bread Rolls

Don't you just love homemade bread? Don't you love EASY homemade bread? I had some corned beef brisket that was just calling out for some yummy bread to make sandwiches so I made these wonderful rolls! Talk about tasty! I toasted the sliced rolls in a little butter in my cast iron skillet and man oh man..were they GOOD! Give 'em a try!

Easy French Bread Rolls



3/4 cup warm water
1-1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 cups flour
1 egg ~ for egg wash, if desired


In a large bowl stir together warm water, yeast and sugar. Let stand 10 minutes.

Add the oil, salt, and 1 cup flour.

Stir in the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough has pulled away from the sides of the bowl.

Knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.

Spray a large bowl with cooking spray and place dough in the bowl. Spray a piece of plastic wrap with cooking spray and cover the bowl. Allow to rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.


Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll into a log then divide the dough into 8 equal pieces, and form into round balls.

Place on a lightly greased baking sheet at least 2 inches apart. Cover the rolls with a piece of plastic wrap that's been sprayed with cooking spray, and let rise until doubled, about 40 minutes.

Brush with egg wash, if desired.

Bake for 18 - 20 minutes in a  preheated 400 degree oven until golden brown.
