Here's something I've been meaning to try for the longest time. I've never really found a GOOD hamburger bun in the grocery store so I figured I'd just make my own. Looks good, right? These babies are HUGE! This recipe makes enough for 8 this size or 12 smaller ones. Whatever the amount....they taste just as awesome. IT Guy said he didn't think that a homemade bun could make THAT much of a difference in a burger. Did I show him, or what???

Monster Hamburger Buns

2 tablespoons yeast
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
3 to 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons melted butter

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Spray a large baking sheet with cooking spray.

In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add oil and sugar; let stand for 5 minutes. Add the eggs, salt and enough flour to form a soft dough.

Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 3-5 minutes. Do not let rise. Divide into 8 pieces and form each into a ball. Place 3 inches apart on a greased baking sheet. Flatten with the palm of your hand a little bit.

Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.

Brush buns with melted butter.

Bake for 10 - 12 minutes until golden brown.

Remove from pans to wire racks to cool. 

Let's get to it!

Dissolve the yeast in warm water 
then add the oil and sugar. 
Let stand for 5 minutes.

Add the eggs, salt and enough of 
the flour to make a soft dough.

Knead for a few minutes.

Then turn out onto a floured 
surface and knead until smooth.

Like this! But don't let the dough rise.

Divide the dough into 8 - 12 equal portions.

Place on cookie sheets to rise.

Don't worry if your buns are perfect circles. 
They all taste the same.

Brush with melted butter and bake until lightly golden. 
You can sprinkle with sesame seeds if you want.

See how pretty??? When you're ready to eat them, 
slice and toast on a buttered skillet for a few minutes.
