Welcome to Simple Fare, Fairly Simple. This is a place for me to post recipes of all kinds...along with other miscellaneous fodder from my so-called life here in the south. Who knows what you will find here. Could be anything from my husband...known as IT Guy...to my kids and beautiful grandbabies that are growing up way too fast right before my eyes. But...mostly this will be a place for food. I hope you'll see something you like and if you decide to try something from the list...leave me a comment and let me know!

My kids LOVE ranch dressing. #1 son heated up some leftover pizza the other day and asked if we had any Ranch dressing to dip his pizza in.  Of course, I did. Then he said he wished the store bought stuff tasted like what you get in restaurants. Well..that's all I needed to get in the kitchen and make my own. Here you go.....#1 son and IT Guy both declared it a success!!

Homemade Buttermilk
Ranch Dressing

1 clove garlic - minced
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
¾ cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon lemon juice
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon mustard powder
1/8 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons dried parsley
2 teaspoons dill

In a medium bowl, combine the garlic and ½ teaspoon salt with a fork.

Add the buttermilk and the mayonnaise and whisk until smooth.

Add the lemon juice, ½ teaspoon salt, mustard powder, paprika and pepper and whisk until combined.

Add the herbs and adjust for taste. Mix well.

Store covered in the fridge for up to a week.

Let's get going!

Combine the minced garlic with some salt.

Then add the buttermilk and mayo with a whisk.

Then add the paprika, mustard, salt and pepper.

Pour into a covered container and pop in the fridge to chill!

  1. Bookmarked!! I'll be trying this out next week on a few friends when they pop over for lunch. Thanks Valerie!!

  2. You're welcome, Kay! It was REALLY good....I doubt I'll be bringing home store bought anymore!
