Welcome!

Welcome to Simple Fare, Fairly Simple. This is a place for me to post recipes of all kinds...along with other miscellaneous fodder from my so-called life here in the south. Who knows what you will find here. Could be anything from my husband...known as IT Guy...to my kids and beautiful grandbabies that are growing up way too fast right before my eyes. But...mostly this will be a place for food. I hope you'll see something you like and if you decide to try something from the list...leave me a comment and let me know!

Stove Top Ham and Beans

My mom gave me some ham the other day and after eating enough ham sandwiches to last me a life time, I was ready for something else. So I picked up a bag of pinto beans and made this easy and yummy soup. It’s nothing that hasn’t already been made a gazillion times before but I think sometimes we forget about these types of recipes. You don’t have to have leftover ham to make this...you can get a hamsteak to use and get the same results. And don’t forget to break out the cornbread because you’re gonna need it!

Stove Top Ham and Beans
1 1-pound bag pinto beans ~ rinsed and picked clean
Water
1 medium onion ~ diced
2 - 3 cups chopped ham
Salt and pepper to taste
Pour beans into a large dutch oven.
Add enough water to rise above beans about 2 inches.
Add diced onion, chopped ham and salt and pepper to taste.
Bring to a boil then reduce heat to low and cook 2 - 3 hours until beans are done.
Serve with cornbread!

The goodies!

Pour beans in a large dutch oven and add enough water to cover beans by 2 inches.

Add the chopped onion and diced ham.

Bring to a boil then add salt and pepper to taste.

Allow to simmer for several hours until beans are done.

Serve it up with some cornbread!!! Good stuff!
