Didn't you just love Sloppy Joes when you were a kid? Your mom
would fry up some ground beef and then pour in the mysterious contents
of "that can"? Mmmmm.....yummy! NOT! Well...Sloppy Joes don't have to be
that way anymore! Make your own sauce and you'll be a hero!! After my
#1 son ate these, he told me he could eat them 3 times a week. I had
some leftover that I wrapped up in a flour tortilla and sent with IT Guy
for lunch. He called it a Sloppy Jose. He makes me laugh.
Sloppy Joes
Saute onion and peppers until tender. Add ground beef and cook until done.
Mix dry ingredients in a medium bowl. Add wet ingredients to dry and stir well.
Pour sauce over ground beef mixture. Stir then cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
Serve sloppy Joes on hamburger buns with optional shredded cheese.
Serves 4 - 6
Sloppy Joes
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion
- 1 green or red bell pepper - chopped
- 1 1/2 tablespoon Flour
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 2/3 cup ketchup
- 3/4 cup Coca-Cola or Pepsi or RC Cola
- 2 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese – optional
- Hamburger buns
