This recipe turned out to be a hit. I have one guy in the fam who's not a sour cream lover and another one who is not a mushroom fan...and this recipe has both....and both of the guys LOVED it! We love flank steak so I'm always looking for ways to use it and this recipe was the perfect thing! You could use a London broil if you want, as well. Both of my guys gave me a big "thumbs up" and told me this dish was a winner!! Yay!!!
Flank Steak Stroganoff
1 1/2 to 2 pounds flank steak or London broil
6 tablespoons butter
1 large onion, chopped
4 ounce can sliced mushrooms ~ undrained
3 tablespoons flour
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
3 beef bouillon cubes, granules, or equivalent beef base
1 can (10 1/2 ounces) condensed beef broth
1 1/2 teaspoons dried dill
1 cup sour cream
salt, to taste
Cut steak into thinly sliced strips across the grain, about 1/4 inch thick, 3 inches long.
Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet and add sliced steak. Brown on all sides and remove to a plate.
Add remaining 4 tablespoons of butter to the skillet then add onions and mushrooms with the liquid. Saute for about 5 to 6 minutes.
Stir in flour, garlic powder, and pepper and stir until smooth. Add bouillon cubes. Pour in beef broth. Bring to a boil and stir constantly until thickened. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 to 6 minutes.
Stir in dill and sour cream. Add beef back to the sour cream mixture and heat through, about 5 minutes. Serve over hot noodles.
